Clue #2 in the Guess-the-Address Contest! (7/16/13)

As you know, I’m working on a new listing in the $200,000 to $250,000 range in the Swarthmore Community!  While my sellers prepare their home, I’m teasing you all with clues.  (The first one is here.)  The first of you to guess the correct address of this home before it is announced on this site wins a one-year subscription to The Swarthmorean newspaper!

Here is Clue #2:

Here’s a list for you to have:

Yale Square, Hillborn Ave,

Mt. Holyoke Place & Cresson Lane,

What’s the connection?  I’ll try again!

Harvard, S. Swarthmore or S. Chester Road

One of these streets hosts the abode!

One more picture just for fun,

These pink daisies nestle by the house in the sun!

Happy guessing!

A New Guess-the-Address Contest (7/16//13)

I’m very excited to be marketing a new listing in the rare $200,000-$250,000 range in Swarthmore community.  This home offers all the perks of the Swarthmore location, but features Springfield schools and taxes!  (Its ideal location is just  a few blocks from downtown Swarthmore- with a total annual tax bill under $5,000!)  These homes are hard to find – and for anyone looking to live in the community without utilizing the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District they are a treasure.

As my sellers prepare their home for showings I will pass the time by releasing clues.  We are still several weeks out from our first showing – so this will be a slow burn!

You know the drill, if you are the first to guess the address of this property before I reveal its identity on my site I will buy you a one year subscription to The Swarthmorean Newspaper!

Here is your first clue:

Somewhere near the Swarthmore Pool

(In Swarthmore community & Springfield schools)

Is a cozy home you’ll want to see,

And in the front yard is this leafy tree…

Tree

Do you recognize this tree? There may be other clues in the picture…

More on “A restoration in Swarthmore”…

As you know from my previous blog post here I am following the restoration of 12 S. Swarthmore  (known as The Mansion of the Cresson Family Farm) with great interest!

The Swarthmorean published this amazing old photo of 12 S.Swarthmore Avenue yesterday!

12 S. Swarthmore (old pic)

I have learned that this half of the house was actually built circa 1830 as an addition to the other half of the twin!

I sold the former tenant farmhouse (37 Amherst Avenue) referred to in the above article back in 2006.  I will never forget the open house at that property – all of Swarthmore came out to salute a piece of our history!  Charles Cresson had donated priceless family images for us to display at the property.  Here is one of them. Keep in mind that this house is now in the middle of the block on Amherst Avenue!

What IS downsizing?

A  young couple (or sometimes a singleton) decides to make a first investment, calls the Realtor and purchases a modest home.  Greater resources and a larger family command a larger home and investment, and so where is that Realtor’s card?  The flowers bloom in springtime, the sun beats down in summer, we rake the fall leaves, we shovel the snow, another year passes. Renovate the kitchen, paint the porch, replace the heater, paint the porch, replace the roof, paint the porch again, replace the central air compressor!  Suddenly there are no more tuition bills to pay and do we REALLY want to paint the porch again? Can’t the next family do that? Can’t we travel?  Or spend the money on books and art?

But where do you keep your books and art if you DOWNSIZE?

And where will we have Thanksgiving?

And how do I live without a driveway? And where do we put houseguests?

And isn’t there a way to downsize responsibilities without losing any space?????

Yes.

Welcome to the Penthouse…

Two stories, 2,585 square feet, full dining room, full kitchen, no yard – but walls of floor-to-ceiling windows bring the woods and sky right into the house!  Big enough for professional entertaining – intimate enough to escape from the world.  Carport, storage unit, elevator, pool, bike storage, van service, community room, library, 2 blocks from SEPTA, campus and downtown Swarthmore…

Welcome home!

Unit #1201 – Does this look like a downsize?
